Batesville Arkansas is known as the “City of Hospitality,” and with good reason. People are friendly here and they welcome the tourists and students who come to their beautiful Ozark foothills’ community to study, learn, play and relax. Listed in “The 100 Best Small Towns in America,” by Norman Crampton, Batesville enjoys an excellent quality of life in a clean, healthy environment. The town is situated along the White River, and its’ economy is divided among industry, agriculture and tourism. Batesville is one of the oldest settlements in Arkansas, and was a major shipping point along the White River years before Arkansas became a state. The first settlement by white men was made in 1810 at the mouth of Poke Bayou. This strategic location in the southeastern section of the Ozarks along the White River made it the “port of entry” for those traveling further upstream, thus Batesville played an important part in the development and history of the whole Ozark region. Today Batesville has a population of approximately 9,000, and is known as one of the fastest growing areas in Arkansas.

Batesville is just a short drive to several state parks and recreational facilities that draw people to the area for the fine fishing, boating, hiking, canoeing and camping adventures. There are six state parks in the Batesville vicinity, including Bull Shoals State Park, which is known nationwide for its’ excellent fishing and boating. In addition Batesville also has a very nice city park located along the White River, Greers Ferry Lake, Black Lake, and two wildlife management areas that offer camping, fishing, boating and hunting. Batesville has a beautiful golf course, an Arts Council, the Batesville Symphony League, Community Concert Association, a Community Theater, a Concert Series, the Independence County Fair, the Ozark Folk Center and various special events and festivals throughout the year. You’ll find excellent schools in Batesville, including “Magnet Schools,” which focus on students’ interests, abilities or need for a particular theme area. Magnet school themes are added to an already strong program, giving your child an opportunity to build on their foundation of reading, writing and math. Batesville is also home to Lyons College, the oldest college in the state, and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. For health care, the White River Medical Center provides over 50 hospital services and specialties with modern technology to a seven-county service area. There are large numbers of manufacturing businesses in town in relation to the size of the community, and the town has shown a steady growth trend that is expected to continue far into the future. Being a college town, Batesville has an abundance of rental properties available – both apartments and homes. For others considering permanent relocation, there are smaller, older homes for sale at very reasonably prices, as well as larger homes and estates, farms, land and commercial property.
